We’ve been coming to this Korean beef soup restaurant in Los Angeles for over 15 years, from when a bowl cost $9 to now around $20, and the quality has never changed. The soup is still the same pure beef broth, with no added salt or seasoning. It tastes very clean and comforting, and you never feel thirsty after drinking it. That’s how we know they don’t use MSG. The milky-white beef bone broth is light, nourishing, and very easy to drink. Whenever we’re not feeling well, we come here for a bowl—it instantly helps restore energy. We usually order the Mixed, which includes intestine, flank, brisket, and other cuts. The aunties working there are very attentive and will regularly check if you need more kimchi or radish, which makes the experience feel very caring and homely. Parking is relatively easy to find, which is another plus. The only downside is the restroom. It’s been the same for many years and feels quite old, a bit dirty, and has an unpleasant smell. If they could improve the restroom, it would make the experience much better overall.
I am by no means a seolleongtang connoisseur but Hanbat is well-known for a reason! They have a very small menu but they are very good at what they serve. I opted for the brisket in the soup. The beef bone broth is very beefy and the brisket is very tender. The meat to soup ratio is higher than what I expected, probably also because it sinks to the bottom of the bowl. Their rice was perfectly chewy and fluffy, and kimchi was refreshing. Keep in mind that to-go containers are an extra $0.50 so bring your own if you anticipate you will have leftovers! The portion is not huge though.
What a lovely location. Got the beef brisket Sul Lung Tang. The broth is very rich in flavour - Not too much additional seasoning needed. Love adding the onions! The staff are incredibly friendly as well. Price is okay, a bit expensive - with that said, everything in LA is expensive. Portion sizes are good! The Kimchi leans more on the acidic side. I was very close to giving this spot a 5 star, but there is a slight ~1-5% gaminess to the meat - Subjective but for those who can notice these finer details, it matters. Nit Picky but this place is one of the best I have had, and to really paint it onto the maps would require slightly higher quality meat suppliers. This would make a worlds difference. Highly highly recommended spot. The vibe is great!
